One Player Soloed Every Elden Ring Nightreign Nightlord Before Patch 1.01.1
Elden Ring Nightreign player Valseran solo cleared every Nightlord before Patch 1.01.1, using Ironeye and stacked lives to beat the nerf.
In the days before FromSoftware and Bandai Namco released Patch 1.01.1 for Elden Ring Nightreign, one player decided not to wait for official mercy. Valseran, a member of the r/Nightreign community, completed solo clears of every Nightlord, from the game's opening expedition to its final boss, and posted the evidence on Reddit. Their reason was blunt: "Wanted to rush them down before the nerf." It was a race against an approaching patch, and Valseran won.

Single-player difficulty had been one of Nightreign's hottest topics after launch. Many players felt that running alone was far harsher than running in a trio. The game's review coverage reflected that tension, noting that solo play was not impossible, but that its balance felt like a job half finished. For some, the frustration of playing alone was not worth the triumph. That dissatisfaction built until Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced a patch aimed at easing the burden on solo players.
Patch 1.01.1 arrived with a clear solo-focused change: the effect "Automatic Revival Upon Defeat" was added to solo expeditions. It allows one revival during a night boss battle once per night, effectively handing solo players a free second life. Valseran described the extra life as "kinda substantial" for solo play. Since stacking extra lives was already an ideal strategy for lone wolves, a free one was a welcome bonus.
Valseran's achievement was not limited to a single victory. They cleared each Nightlord available, from the starting expedition to the final boss. The clear times visible on the right-hand side of their screenshot showed steady progress in the days before the update, as if they were outrunning the impending storm of the patch. Their wins came largely on Ironeye, the ranged archer among the Nightfarers, though Duchess and Executor made cameo appearances early on.
| Detail | Valseran's Approach |
|---|---|
| Main Nightfarer | Ironeye 🏹 |
| Early cameos | Duchess and Executor |
| Hardest boss | Final boss |
| Most deaths | Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow |
| Key survival tactic | Stacking extra lives |
| Reason for the run | Beat the nerf |
Asked for tips on Ironeye, Valseran focused less on chasing a perfect bow and more on stacking weapon passives in other slots. Ranged damage, damage while two-handing, and damage while at full health can all stack, and the combination can make damage output absurd. Any purple-quality bow will shine with decent passives, they said. Ironeye's dash ability also deals great damage, but Valseran tended to save it as a dodge when a difficult-to-roll attack was on the way. The Art was used for similar reasons against bosses: more for invulnerability than for damage.
Although Ironeye was the primary choice, Valseran said they preferred melee on some bosses and even ran melee weapons as Ironeye on a few fights. Some bosses, however, were "just a nightmare solo" without ranged attacks, according to the lone wolf archer. They ranked the final boss as the hardest, but admitted they died to the centaur boss, Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow, the most.
Extra lives were another major priority. Without teammates to pick them up, solo players need a safety net. Valseran prioritized acquiring extra lives from merchants, and some field bosses also dropped them depending on the expedition. "One of my boss fights i went in with 4 extra lives," they said. "But at the very least, always get one early."
Valseran was not the only player pushing solo boundaries. Other players had cleared large chunks of the game alone, and figures such as YouTuber Ongbal posted solo victories against specific Nightreign bosses. Even so, Valseran's effort to sweep everything possible before the patch closed in was both impressive and fitting. The bragging rights were earned under the original, harsher rules.
By 2026, Elden Ring Nightreign has settled into its life as a demanding co-op and solo challenge, but Patch 1.01.1 remains a turning point for lone wolves. The update softened some of the most punishing edges of solo expeditions, giving players a better chance to survive a night boss battle. Yet Valseran's pre-nerf clears stand as a reminder of what the game demanded before that helping hand arrived. For everyone else, the burden is slightly easier to bear, and the door is open for more Nightfarers to attempt the game's challenges.
With plenty of tips and tricks available for taking down all eight Nightlord bosses, unlocking the Revenant and the Duchess, and changing characters, the community has more tools than ever. Still, some victories are sweeter when they are claimed before the nerf. Valseran's race against Patch 1.01.1 is one of them. ⚔️
